The Bee Sting was also my only June read and I loved it.

Also, your take on Normal People is so relatable. "I couldn’t wrap my mind around their conflict—so much of it came down to being able to have a conversation." I remember discussing it with a friend back in 2020 and saying, almost word for word, the same thing. She shouted me that it was 'easy for me to say as I wasn't single'. Whatever that meant (we're no longer friends). For some reason I still watched the show twice and each time it got me in some kind of depressive torpor.

My friend also watched it twice! I just couldn't get into it in the end. I think Marianne's inability to formulate a sense of self was troubling. Things seemed to be happening to her rather than her actively making choices. The only thing she seemed to choose was isolation, which was very depressing ha

Thank you for highlighting your Virgo friends because as a Virgo, we are so often MALIGNED and this utter slander needs to stop.

(Also I'm visiting the city in August and now may need to go to Newburgh to try that soft serve. You've influenced me.)

Haha no virgo slander here! I don't understand why people hate us when we're the best sign of all.

We really are!! The world would collapse without Virgos running things. We’re the sign of the harvest for goodness’ sakes!

At least we can rest assured that we are perfect and everyone else is wrong.

I can so relate to that last screenshot. 🙂‍↔️ I also wasn’t a fan of the last Bridgerton season. The plot felt rushed and there were too many unnecessary side plots, imo.

SO many side plots. Every plot felt like the A plot. It was so weird that they couldn't get that together.

Super interested in your Bee Sting reflections bc I have it on my shelf!! I think I’ll read it in August. So thrilled to hear we’ve got yet another Irish author who’s allergic to quotation marks!

So intrigued by Ren Faire and Telemarketers- literally heard of neither. Can always count on you to come thru w the TV recs!!! Re NP - had you read the book before hand?

Strawberry picking outfit is 10/10 💚 June sounds like a lovely month xx

I haven't read NP--do you think it'll make me think differently about the story overall? I know people loved it! And thank youuuu re: outfit!

I think if you want to try and understand the story & the lore more I’d definitely recommend reading the book. The adaption is such a good articulation of the book, but as a stand alone TV show I think it’s harder to fully enjoy the nuance if you haven’t read the book. What the adaption misses is all the internal dialogue within Marianne’s head, you miss that on the screen and I think it could maybe make you understand her character a bit more. Imo on the page Marianne and Connell’s relationship is more compelling because you know much more about them as individuals and their internal desires/conflicts etc etc. I read it when I was 16 so maybe as an adult I’d have a different reflection BUT I think ultimately the book is better than the show! The TV show has to rely on so much silence and contemplation because Rooney writes so little dialogue and so much internal contemplation and reflection. It’s hard to transfer to script so I think it makes them different xx
